2019 Election: Anies Baswedan Provides No Comment on PKS Support
Andrew Mckinney TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan aversely commented on the news of him being included in the Prosperous Justice Party’s (PKS) list of possible presidential candidates for the 2019 presidential election.
Anies Baswedan chose not to provide any comments on the fact that he is currently backed by PKS President Sohibul Iman and several of its members.
“No,no,no, that’s enough,” said Anies when asked to comment on the news during a press conference at the Southeast Asian, Africa, and Europe Ulama meeting in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta today.
As previously reported, Sohibul Iman said that several of his party members suggested him to name Anies Baswedan as the party’s presidential candidate to face the incumbent candidate from PDIP, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo.
“I think it’s not worth it if Anies Baswedan is fully-backed just to be a candidate for Vice President. The logic suggests that it’s better for [Anies] to be a presidential candidate,” said Sohibul at the PKS headquarters on Monday, July 2.
Sohibul said that Anies Baswedan’s name arose after he was able to be backed into being the governor of Jakarta.
He also deemed the effort involved in making Anies Baswedan into the governor back in the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election was astounding.
