5-Star PG Elliot Cadeau to Debut at UNC in 2023 After Reclassifying from 2024 Class | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Sophia Edwards North Carolina's 2023-24 roster just got a major boost.
5-star point guard Elliot Cadeau announced his intention to reclassify and become a member of the 2023 class Tuesday and enroll at North Carolina next week.
"I think I'm ready," Cadeau told Jonathan Givony of ESPN. "I think that I can play in college in a couple of months. There's no reason to stay in high school, because I can hang with college players right now."
Cadeau was considered the No. 9 overall player and top-ranked point guard in the 2024 class by 247Sports' composite rankings.
Listed at 6'1" and 165 pounds, Cadeau will need to work on his strength, and he doesn't have the type of generational hops you'd want in a smaller guard. That said, Cadeau is a next-level star when it comes to his understanding of the game, using his ability to dictate pace to keep defenders out of rhythm.
Cadeau is also familiar with the international level, having gotten experience playing for Sweden's U16, U18 and senior teams and taking part in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
While he says he plans on running the offense from the outset, Cadeau will have competition in his own locker room. The Tar Heels bring back starting point guard R.J. Davis from last year's team, and it'll be interesting to see if coach Hubert Davis wants to pair two small guards in his backcourt (Davis is 6'0").
Despite the competition in the backcourt and needed improvement in his game, Cadeau has confidence he'll hear his name called in the 2024 NBA draft.
"My goal was always to be one-and-done," Cadeau said. "Reclassing doesn't change that. It's definitely my end goal—to be in the draft as soon as possible—but this takes pressure off me to be one-and-done and gives me the option of staying two years if needed."
