Sex should be an orgasmic and satisfying experience, but sometimes, sex is just... weird. Sometimes, you call your booty call, show up at his place at 4 a.m. on a Saturday night, and discover he just can’t keep it up.

Yes, this happened to me. Talk about awkward!

Other times, your body doesn’t feel right — and neither does your vagina. He's thrusting, and all you can think about is calling up your gyno.

If you are experiencing any of the following things during sex, perhaps you should see a doctor:

1. That weird odor.

A vagina isn’t supposed to smell like a rose garden, but it also shouldn't smell like rotten eggs. If you feel like your vaginal odor has changed for the worse, you may have an infection.

BV (bacteria vaginosis) is a common infection caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina. Symptoms include a fishy smell and discharge. The smell is worse during and after sex. Although BV is not a sexually transmitted infection (STI), it still needs to be treated with antibiotics.

2. Painful sex.

Sometimes your man is so grande that having sex actually hurts. However, unless you’re a virgin, feeling constant pain during sex is definitely a cause for alarm.

If you feel pain during penetration, it might be due to insufficient lubrication. He needs to get you wetter! An infection, such as a UTI (urinary tract infection), or vaginismus, a condition where the muscles of the vaginal wall spasm, might also be the causes.

3. Vaginal itch. 

You've got your sexy lingerie on, and you’re ready to seduce your man. He slips in, and it feels so good — until you need to scratch your vag.

It itches; it burns! What is happening?! You may have an STI or a vaginal yeast infection. 

4. Blacking out. 

You’re having the best sex ever — until you faint. Just like that, you black out. You may have experienced vasovagal syncope, one of the most common causes of fainting.

The fainting spell is triggered when your body becomes overly excited during certain experiences. Your heart rate and blood pressure drop, and blood flow to your brain decrease. Your orgasm is so great that you just can’t catch your breath — and you faint. Kudos to your awesome orgasm!

If this happens all the time, however, talk to your doctor as it might be due to a heart condition. 

5. You don’t get aroused — ever. 

If you’re never turned on during sex (ever!) you may have a low libido, or female sexual arousal disorder. A recent study discovered that almost 50 percent of American women over the age of 57 have little to no sexual desire. They just don’t feel aroused anymore.

So, if you’ve always had difficulty getting turned on during sex, the culprit might just be female sexual arousal disorder.

6. Vaginal bleeding. 

You’re getting it on, and you start... bleeding?! Immediately, you check your menstrual calendar, and realize that Aunt Flow isn’t supposed to visit for a few more weeks. So, what’s wrong?

Blame it on postcoital bleeding, which occurs when your cervix is sore and inflamed. If you are bleeding during and after sex, you might have an infection, like chlamydia or HPV, or you may be undergoing hormonal changes.

In other words, go see your gynecologist — STAT!
