Green spent the last two seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a solid 2021 season with the franchise, catching 54 passes for 848 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games.
However, the 34-year-old wasn't relied on nearly as much in 2022, catching just 24 passes for 236 yards and two scores in 15 games. DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore, Greg Dortch and Marquise Brown were all used more than Green.
Before joining the Cardinals, Green spent the first 10 years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, which selected him fourth overall in the 2011 NFL draft. He earned seven straight Pro Bowl selections to begin his career and was one of the greatest receivers of his generation, having posted 1,000-plus receiving yards in six of his first seven NFL seasons.
The Georgia product racked up 9,430 yards and 65 touchdowns in 127 games with the Bengals.
Green ends his career having caught 727 passes for 10,514 yards and 70 touchdowns in 158 games. He is widely considered one of the best receivers in Bengals history.
His decision to retire comes as no surprise, especially because he told reporters at the end of the 2022 campaign that he was considering hanging up the cleats.
"It's a decision I have to make with my family, but whatever the decision is, I'm at peace with it," Green said. "I feel I've been true to this game my whole career, I did everything the right way, so if it's my time to walk away, I'll be ready."
With Green entering retirement, teams in need of receiving depth can look into other free-agent options, including JuJu Smith-Schuster, DJ Chark and Allen Lazard.
