Abigail Leibowitz's Women's Lacrosse Recruiting Profile
Michael King Personal Statement
Hello my name is Abigail Leibowitz,
To tell you about myself as a person and a player... I currently attend California High school in San Ramon, California. I am an honor roll student who besides playing lacrosse, also participates in many other activities. I have been in Girl Scouts since first grade where I do a lot of community service. I played soccer most of my life and I played for a competitive soccer league from 8th to 11th grade. Also as soon as I was old enough to get a job I did and have been balancing these activities almost my entire high school experience. Therefore I have a strong sense of balance between academics and extracurriculars.
I began playing lacrosse quite later than many girls I play alongside however I have found a way to catch up and even exceed some of those who have been playing before me. My first year I played attack half the season but switched over to defense later in the season and fell in love with the position. I made Varsity for my school lacrosse team my sophomore year. That year my team went undefeated in season and won first in our league. As well as for a majority of our season we were ranked 4th in the nation. I was so grateful to be able to work alongside that team and was able to learn from many girls on my team who were committed to play division 1 and 2. My skills improved drastically, I began the year on the bench for most games and ended the season as a starter. I even was voted Rookie of the year by my teammates due to my ability to take the feedback I was given and apply it, improving my lax IQ as well as skill. My Junior year there was a new coach who came in since the previous one, Rachel Martinez had been offered a spot to coach at Claremont Mackena. In addition to this we also had lost 9 of our teammates since they graduated. Most people expected our season to be a recovery one since we would have almost an entirely new team. As well as the fact that out of the seven defenders we had, only me and one other were remaining. However this was not the case, this year I was captain of the defense and our team again won the title of first in league. I had an amazing season and after my team went all the way to the Championships of Northern California State I was voted Defender of the year by my team and also was picked as first team all league which is voted on by all of the coaches in my league. It was a huge honor and I can't wait to see what next year holds for my high school as well as me as a player.
