The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the premier Flat race in Europe and this year’s renewal has attracted another stellar field. 

Fifteen runners have been declared for the 1m 4f contest, and the ground at Longchamp ahead of the race is described as soft.

French Derby hero Ace Impact is the star home horse in the field, while St Leger winner Continuous goes for Aidan O’Brien and six-year-old Hukum is bidding to become the oldest winner of this race since 1932.

Jean-Claude Rouget’s star colt is the ace in the pack

With five victories from five career starts, ACE IMPACT comes into the Arc with a 100 per cent record. 

The three-year-old colt was far too good for his rivals in the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly earlier in the campaign. The form of that race has improved as the season has gone on, with Freed The Flame and Continuous in behind him that day.

Jean-Claude Rouget won this race with Sottsass in 2020 and his Cracksman colt looks like one of the most exciting horses the Frenchman has had in his yard. 

With a 6lb weight allowance in his favour here against the older horses, he could prove very hard to beat on going that he will relish.

Continuous has got better with every run this season

No horse has been successful in the St Leger and the Arc in the same season, but trainer O’Brien must be confident that CONTINUOUS can make history in Paris.

He has supplemented the British Classic winner for the race, and the colt is the Irishman’s sole representative this year.

The 1m 4f distance at Longchamp can often prove quite taxing, but it is unlikely to be a problem for the three-year-old. 

He has stayed on so strongly at the back end of his contests in the Great Voltigeur and St Leger so expect to see him powering home when many of his rivals here have had enough.

Don’t discount Place Du Carrousel

PLACE DU CARROUSEL was victorious at this meeting 12 months ago when she won the Prix de l’Opera Longines, a Group 1 contest for fillies, beating Nashwa by just less than a length on very soft ground at Longchamp. 

André Fabre’s runner comes into the Arc this year in great form, so she cannot be discounted from major glory again.

The four-year-old filly won the Group 2 Prix Foy over course and distance last time out on what was her first attempt at a 1m 4f trip. 

She stayed every inch of that outing, which has convinced her trainer she deserves a crack against the opposite sex.
