Personal Statement

I am Alex Rizk, a swimmer and a freshman at Scarsdale High School. At a young age, I started many sports including swimming, but I immediately felt that I preferred swimming over all other sports. In 6th grade my family moved to the US and I joined the Middies Wave Ryders swim club. It was then that I started swimming competitively and swimming became a huge part of my life. I am very dedicated to my team, and I have made friends and grown close with some of the members.This year I swam with my school’s varsity team, and although the season was modified and very short, I gave my best. As a student, I work hard to manage both my swimming, school work, and other extracurricular activities.  As part of my school Math team, I have participated in various Math competitions. This year I started working on my Eagle project and to start it off, I had a fundraising violin concert at home.

I have a passion for engineering and programming, and although I haven’t really decided on what I want to specialize in, I know it is going to be in one of these fields. I hope to join an academically-strong university and be part of the swim team. I know I am well prepared to handle both the academic workload and athletic demands. In addition, being a Boy Scout has given me the skills to be a good leader and be supportive of those around me.
