Audrey Murphy – Metropolitan Funeral
Mia Horton Audrey Murphy was born on June 10, 1925, to the late Willie and Helen Williams. Audrey is predeceased by her parents; husband, Willie James Murphy; her daughter, Helen Alberta Murphy and her sons, Thomas James, Leroy, and Curtis Murphy. Audrey was born on the Eastern Shore and later lived in Delway, North Carolina before settling in Virginia.
Audrey worked for Portsmouth Public Schools for over 40 years before retiring to spend time with her family. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA were she often attended services with her children and grandchildren. She was also a former member of Eastern Star and various social clubs.
Audrey was an exceptional cook and baker. Her food and desserts were loved by family and friends, especially her rolls. She was a gracious host and held numerous holiday gatherings for family and friends at her home. She also enjoyed vacationing with her family, playing bingo, and an occasional visit to the casino. She was also an avid game show fan.
She leaves behind her sons, Willie Lee and Jimmy Floyd Murphy; her daughters, Viola Ferebee and Shelia Benton; her son, in law Larry Benton, and her daughter’s in law Viola and Barbara Ann Murphy; and a host of grand, great, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Her love and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten.
