Bobby Heenan Hospitalized: Updates on Former WWE Star's Status and Recovery | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
William Burgess Hall of Fame WWE manager and announcer Bobby "The Brain" Heenan was reportedly hospitalized Wednesday after suffering a fall.
Fellow WWE Hall of Fame announcer "Mean" Gene Okerlund reported the news on Twitter:
Gene Okerlund @TheGeneOkerlundHey Gang. Just got word that, Bobby Heenan had a spill this morning and will be in the hospital for a few days. Wishing The Brain the best
Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed the news. His wife Cynthia provided an update on his health, via Twitter, "Doctors are going keep Bobby for the next 72 hours because his blood pressure is so low."
The 71-year-old Heenan was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002 and has subsequently battled tongue cancer and jaw infections in the years since.
Heenan is regarded as one of the greatest managers and all-around performers in wrestling history. He made a name for himself in the AWA throughout the 1970s before joining WWE in 1984.
The Chicago native remained with the company in multiple capacities before joining WCW as an announcer in 1994. He remained there until 2000 and made a one-off return to WWE as part of the announce team for the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-Seven in 2001.
Heenan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004, taking his rightful place among professional wrestling's immortals.
The Brain was known for his quick wit and sharp tongue, and he excelled at playing the heel role.
Heenan was so good at whipping the crowd into a frenzy that he earned the moniker "Weasel," and the crowd regularly erupted whenever a top babyface, such as Hulk Hogan or Ultimate Warrior, managed to get his hands on him.
Although the exact nature of Heenan's injuries aren't yet known, Okerlund's report that his hospital stay will be brief is positive news regarding one of the all-time greats in pro wrestling.
