Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez has been the target of harsh criticism throughout his boxing career, but there are others who feel proud of the boxer, the one who tops that list is his mother, Ana María Barragán.

In an interview with Medio Tiempo, Saúl's mother expressed the pride she feels for the youngest of her sons.

"I feel very proud of him for so many things he has achieved, and more than anything else for what a good boy he is as a son, as a person, as a human being, I am very happy to be his mother," expressed Ana María Barragán.

Canelo's fights take away his mother's sleep

Ana Maria indicated that although she is getting used to it, she still gets very nervous and even loses sleep every time a new Canelo fight gets close.

"Yes you can live calmly, but it is not the same, because we no longer have the same freedom as before, we have to go out with security; because I get very nervous when he is going to fight, and the fight is getting closer, and I get very stressed, sometimes I can not sleep, sometimes I have a headache, stomach ache, with much anxiety more than anything, although one way or other I am getting used to it, and I have great faith in God and great faith in him, that we will win," she said.

Ana María also spoke about how the criticisms against her son do not affect her

"There will always be criticisms, and the truth is that they don't affect me, him, I think, because sometimes people criticize out of envy, because they will never become what he is, nor will they have what he has, he has it for his discipline, for his effort, but I don't care what they say, it's not like it affects us, there are always criticisms if he wins or loses, she explained.

Canelo loved to fight since he was a little boy

"He was very restless as a child, a fighter more than anything else, he liked to fight, he liked to get into fights, because he always had adrenaline, he wanted to get into fights to fight and take out his anger," she said.
