Brennan Hoem's Men's Swimming Recruiting Profile
William Harris Personal Statement
My name is Brennan Hoem and I am a junior in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Swimming competitively has always been my passion since I was six years old. I have been fortunate to have some of the best supportive and knowledgeable club coaches over the years who developed my technique and leadership skills while training year round and racing in over 750 events with the OSHY Swim Team. (that is not counting my high school races) My passion for swimming affected the way I approached my academics. From a very young age I discovered the importance of time management and goal setting. One of my earliest challenges was when I was 10 and suffered through a year of not achieving a best time in the 50 or 100 free. From that point on I discovered how persistence and patience work in harmony. Since then, I have succeeded in eventually breaking club team records along with high school records. I have earned Swimmer of the Year Awards over the past three years and most recently qualified for 10 individual events in the 17+ division at USA Swimming State Championships. I learned from swimming how to approach my studies and have been awarded the Presidential Academic Fitness Award and the First Level Academic Achievement Award at my school and utilize my goal setting skills to maintain a 3.9+ GPA while serving as the Junior Class representative (Senator) in my school of 1700 students. I was selected by school staff for one of several student positions of the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Committee that honors a previous grad of our high school who has made an impact in the world through their achievements. I also was selected by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with our school to serve on the city wide Youth Leadership Committee.
My collegiate swimming goal is to swim at the collegiate level and possibly qualify for a championship representing my school. I believe in being the best that I can possibly be with the talents God has given me in swimming, academics, and life in general. I hope to study Business or BioChem at the next level and minor in Spanish. I may continue with some aspect of band informally if time permits. I play tuba and trumpet and have discovered how helpful swim training has been when blowing my horn! I am the kind of person who sets goals and thrives on doing the work and following the process to attain them. I have always pushed myself to be the best role model that I can be and take great satisfaction on helping others achieve their goals in and outside of the classroom. I feel I would be an asset to your team and university.
