Cassandra Jones Murder – The Execution Of An Innocent Woman
Emily Wong Cassandra Jones’ murder is the type of case that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Jones, a 48-year-old mother and grandmother was killed in broad daylight execution-style.
Cassandra resided in New Orleans, where she worked as a deputy clerk in Orleans Parish. She was widely known for doing things no one else had done before. Some people called her fearless and bold.
Jones’s murder shook her friends and family to the core as she was so full of life and didn’t deserve to leave this world in such an inhumane manner.
Who knew a woman known to never rely on others would be brutally murdered by someone she was extremely close to.
Jones, 48, met BJ Brown, 32, and began dating. Their relationship was full of red flags as the two seemed to break up and make up frequently.
At 9:26 a.m., on Monday, June 27, 2022, Jones was leaving her home to go to work when she was allegedly brutally assaulted by Brown outside her apartment complex. The incident, which took place in a parking lot, was captured and went viral on social media.
In the graphic video, Jones is lying on the ground in agony, and a man, allegedly Brown, with an assault rifle walks up to her and shoots her execution-style two times in the back. Without looking back, he flees the crime scene.
Three daughters and one grandson survive Jones. According to the police, Brown was arrested in northwest Tennessee after fleeing New Orleans and shooting a Tennessee cop during a traffic stop.
As of last year, Brown was behind bars at the Houston County Jail and was expected to face an attempted first-degree murder charge in Tennessee plus a second-degree murder charge in New Orleans.
According to Cassandra’s family, they knew the kind of person Brown was, but they still did not expect him to stoop so low and brutally kill a person who once loved him dearly.
Police and court records indicate Jones had called 911 on Brown several times. In 2020, in one report she filed, she listed herself as his fiancée.
After digging into Brown’s court records, the authorities discovered that Jones filed a protection petition accusing Brown of physical, mental, financial, and s*xual abuse.
According to Nola.com, Jones filed a restraining order against Brown just a month and a half before her tragic death in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
In it, she detailed several incidents of alleged violence, “including punching, choking, kicking, s*xual abuse, threats of bodily harm, and financial intimidation.”
Unfortunately, Jones was not granted a restraining order because she did not follow up in court.
Why did Brown murder Jones?
Brown’s motive in killing Jones is unclear, but it is typical of a man unable to accept a woman breaking up with him.
Brown has a lengthy criminal history spanning over a decade across several parishes. Most of the charges come from St. John the Baptist, where he had been arrested more than ten times over the past ten years.
He’s been arrested at least twice for domestic abuse battery. Court records show Jones as the victim of at least one of these incidents, and both times the charges were dropped by the victim.
