Christine Goetz's Field Hockey Recruiting Profile
Sophia Edwards Personal Statement
I am currently a Junior at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, MD. I consider myself an extremely aggressive, confident, strong field hockey player. These attributes have contributed to my overall success both on and off the fields and in the classroom. My true aspiration is to find a college that will challenge me and help me develop skills that will allow me to continue to play the game I love and learn skills/make connections to obtain a fulfilling job in the mental/physical health field.
Coaches have commented on my ability to "change my speed when I have possession of the ball" and my consistency with which I "square my shoulders upfield when I have space.” Additionally, my ability to "attack with purpose" towards the goal and my ability to “force defenders to make decisions,” are a few of my strengths. My coaches in basketball and field hockey have noticed my leadership qualities and have made me team captain for the last season in both. I am proud to say that people look up to me both on and off the fields. I pride myself on my ability to make a lot of quality connections with my peers, teammates and coaches...due to my overall cheerful personality and love of making people laugh. My teammates and I always support each other and do our best to bring out the best in ourselves!
Additionally, I work very hard in school. I typically earn mostly A's in my Honors and AP courses. I am a very faith-based individual and volunteer/assist regularly at church and clubs in school. I have also been able to continue to be a successful multi-sport Varsity athlete since my freshman year in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.
Field hockey has become, and will continue to be, my passion. My accolades include: 1st team all-county/2nd team all-conference in 2016. In 2017, I earned 1st team all - county and 1st team all-conference honors in Carroll County, MD. I helped my team win a 1A state championship my freshman year and a regional championship and 2nd place standing in the state semi-final, last year. My team won the 2A state final this year and I’m proud to say, I earned a 2nd team All - State honor! I have participated in a Super-Sixty 3-day camp and attended several college camps this past summer. I plan on attending college recruiting tournaments and continue participating in college prospect days this spring and summer.
