Personal Statement

My dream and one of my life's goals is to play golf in college and obtain a golf scholarship. Ultimately my goal after graduation is to turn pro. 

I started playing at the end of 8th grade and seemed to be a little late for the party. I played ok, but was not even close to being competitive. My first 2 day Junior tournament was in February of my freshman year at Pinehurst. It was freezing and actually snowed. My result was pretty bad. I scored about a 200 and was pretty bummed. I knew I could play, and did not want to give up. Within a few months I was playing better, I made the high school's team and by the end of the season, I was voted All-Conference by the coaches. We moved again, to a school that had just won the State Championship and my next goal was to make the new team which I just moved to, knowing they were really good, and I succeeded. I  helped them take second place in conference, win Regionals and come within a few strokes of 2nd and 3rd place in the state.  Though we came up short in the State Championship, it was a great experience to build on. My senior season has just started practices, and I scored the lowest average score during tryouts, including a 35 on the last day of tryouts, giving me the number 1 spot heading into the season. I have also been named Captain! Looking back at the last 3 years, who would have thought I could make it this  far!

You have to work harder than the next guy to get where you want to be, and I have worked hard with several swing coaches over the past 3 years, but none have helped me like my current coach, Randy Joyner. Being both a  PGA  player and coach, he really understands what it takes to play and advance, and talks with me about this at each of our weekly practices, going over his "10 rules" on what I need to do each time, along with what I need to do different or put more focus on.  He coaches some of the biggest names on the tour today and he says he sees my ability and how quick I have advanced over the short time since freshman year as well as with him. He tells me I have the ability to play in the PGA, and play on competitive college teams, including DI

I am excited for what the upcoming last year of high school will bring, but the thought of playing college golf, excites me and drives me even to reach my goal of  a golf scholarship. I know that what ever school gives me a chance to come to their campus and play for their team, will get a student dedicated to succeed in the classroom, and a teammate that will be a team player,  a leader and an asset to the team.
