He had attended the church camp at Jekyll Island for several years, and it was a place that he loved and cherished dearly.

Connor Mathis disappearance

The Connor Mathis missing came as a shock to his family and the community. The young man was reported missing after he failed to rejoin his group at 6 p.m. on Monday. 

When he went missing, he had been attending the church camp at Jekyll Island with several other teenagers.

Frantic parents and volunteers joined forces with the Georgia State Patrol and Jekyll Island Fire Department to search for Connor. 

The search was extensive, and everyone involved was committed to finding him. 

They searched the island, and no stone was left unturned in the quest to find Connor. 

Sadly, their efforts came to a heartbreaking end when his lifeless body was discovered on the island’s south end.

Connor Mathis’s death has left the entire community of Jekyll Island in mourning. 

Jekyll Island Fire & EMS made the announcement via Facebook post at 2:40 p.m., expressing gratitude for the extensive support from the community and the search and rescue efforts carried out by local, county, and state authorities.

Many who knew Connor personally have been left in disbelief and heartbroken by his loss. The outpouring of condolences and support from the community has been overwhelming.
