Country music group Little Texas has created some big hits throughout the years, and this includes the song “God Blessed Texas,” which was released in 1993 as the second single off their breakthrough album Big Time. 

The song ranked No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart while also crossing over to the pop chart, peaking at No 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 – making it the group’s most successful single on the said chart.

Since then, “God Blessed Texas” has been the country group’s signature song, which they used to close out their concerts.

A Celebration Of Texas Pride

Written by Little Texas‘ lead vocalist Tim Ruslow, “God Blessed Texas” is a celebration of the place known as the Lone Star State. The song sings how God must have paid extra attention to Texas – even bringing down angels from the Promised Land into the state – when it created the world. 

“If you wanna see Heaven, brother, here’s your chance. I’ve been sent to spread the message, ‘God blessed Texas,'” the song goes. After all, the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Since then, “God Blessed Texas” has been heard in countless sports venues in Texas, such as Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers games. It can also be heard in several parts of the amusement park, Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas.

Interestingly, prior to the band’s formation, Ruslow and pioneer member Dwayne O’Brien started playing together in Arlington, four years before Little Texas was founded in 1988.
