It came about when Henry Smith just finished his seminary school but got the saddest news of his life. He was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition that made him practically blind. It affected his life because he was having a hard time looking for a job as well.

With all that is happening in his life, he turned to the Lord. He remembered the scripture:

“For you know the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake, He became poor so that you through His poverty might become rich.”
