Memphis Grizzlies star Derrick Rose took to playing chess on his cell phone instead of watching Drake, at the Canadian rapper's concert on Wednesday.

Drake has been touring since June 2023 but as his first tour in five years starts to come to a close, he seemingly could not keep all of those in attendance entertained.

The Grizzlies' point guard took to his mobile phone to alleviate his boredom, deciding to play chess instead, and his wife, Alaina, wasted no time to let her Instagram followers know what was going on.

She filmed the 2011 NBA MVP fully engrossed in the tactical chessboard game, and captioned the moment as "WHEN I MAKE MY HUSBAND COME OUTSIDE."

What distracted Rose?

The pair used to be quite close, with Drake giving tribute to the basketball star at the beginning of one of his 2016 shows.

Rose went up on stage with the multiple-time Grammy winner as Drake said: "I'm going to stay on stage tonight but there's one guy you've got to thank for that.

I just want know if New York City could make some noise for him. New York City, I want you to make some noise for the legendary D-Rose tonight."

So it's unclear what caused the two-time FIBA world champion to be distracted from the music, but NBC5 Chicago reported that the Roses recently had a small marriage ceremony days prior to their attendance at the show.

Drake struggling for motivation?

Drake is incredibly popular, having sold over 170 million records across the globe and experiencing sustained success throughout the last decade.

However, one of his colleagues suggested that the Canadian could be struggling to find lyrical motivation for his works.

"I asked him a while ago, I said something like, 'Man, why don't you make songs like you used to?'" Fellow rapper, Lil Yachty, said to hiphopdx.com. "I was like, 'Why don't you make love songs, like those songs that makes people miss they ex?'

"I think he explained to me how it's hard for him to make music about things he isn't dealing with or experiencing, which opened an eye for me because me on the other hand, as a songwriter, I can just go make some stuff up."

He continued: "For him, everything is real. Everything is pulled from something. Maybe he hasn't been in love in a while to make love, deep love music or whatever the case may be."
