EAST POINT, Ga. — An East Point subdivision with hundreds of homes has been without water for over a day.
The residents who live in the Lakeside Preserve neighborhood said they're frustrated after dealing with the water outage for more than 24 hours. The subdivision, which contains hundreds of homes, is located on the west side of town near several major shopping centers.
"There's hundreds if not thousands of people in this area, it's really not good. A lot of children and elderly people," one resident said.
On Wednesday, those families with children and seniors could be seen going to the front of the subdivision to pick up jugs of water by staff with the City of East Point's water and sewer department.
"I'm disappointed that I'm told to go to the front of the neighborhood to get water," another resident said.
In an update, a spokesperson with East Point Water Resources Department said after conducting multiple tests, they determined a city water valve was closed on Tuesday-- prompting the outage.
"The results of the investigation revealed a Plumber hired by a warehouse facility on Southmeadow Parkway West damaged a city water valve restricting the water flow," a spokesperson for East Point Water Resources said in a statement.
The outage impacted neighborhoods, including Lakeside Preserve, Southmeadow Parkway West and the Parallel 36 Apartments along Jailette Road.
Officials added that they anticipated the water would be restored by Wednesday evening. However, they advised residents that they may still experience some discolored water and recommended continuing to run faucets for five to 10 minutes.
"Since the outage was not caused by a water main break and our water pressure remained above the recommended threshold, a boil water advisory is not required," the spokesperson added.
