Everett David Grosgebauer Obituary, Death – The loss of Retired Trooper Everett Grosgebauer (Fessenden) has left the North Dakota Highway Patrol in a state of deep sadness. Peacefully passing away on Friday, December 15th, Everett left behind a deep legacy of selfless service and dedication to the people of North Dakota. After enlisting in the Army in 1958, Everett Grosgebauer began his lifelong commitment to service as an Army MP in Europe.

Grosgebauer was born on January 6, 1940, in Mandan, North Dakota. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Everett began his career in 1963 with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, where he served with honor and dedication for more than 30 years, until taking early retirement in 1993. Beyond his professional achievements, Everett has left an indelible mark on society as a doting husband to Sheila Tolstad for more than five decades and a doting dad to Gary, Andy, and Amy.

His devotion to his loved ones, his neighborhood, and his religion was unmatched. Participating in numerous groups, he was an active member of Fessenden’s First Lutheran Church, the 1868 Harvey VFW, the American Legion Frank Proisl Post #33, and the Harvey Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 3080. Everett, a man with many passions, enjoyed spending time with his family and going fishing and hunting. He inculcated a respect for the natural world and a sense of personal responsibility for one’s safety in his offspring by passing on his enthusiasm to them.

After retiring, Everett’s commitment to his community only grew stronger. While he was still very much alive, he drove school buses for Fessenden-Bowdon School and worked for the United States Marshal Services out of the Bismarck Federal Building. During the winters, he and his beloved Sheila would spend time in Florida, making cherished memories with their family. A burial will take place at Mandan’s North Dakota Veterans Cemetery following a funeral service at Everett Grosgebauer’s beloved First Lutheran Church in Fessenden.
