“Here Is Gone” by Goo Goo Dolls

According to John Rzeznik’s own explanation of this song, the singer is basically stuck in the friend zone with the addressee. And by analyzing the lyrics, it becomes sort of obvious that the reason this is so is because she especially has had issues with romance in the past. Moreover, this is not a case of him trying to seduce or game her. Rather the singer comes off as if he is genuinely concerned about the addressee’s emotional wellbeing. But that being said, as alluded to earlier it doesn’t seem he is necessarily making any headway in their romance. And that appears to be the idea which this title of the track is speaking to, i.e. the singer not being able to get through to the addressee in the present moment.

This track was released on 5 March 2002 as the lead single from the Goo Goo Dolls’ album entitled “Gutterflower”. And the label that put the tune out is Warner Bros. Records.

The music video to this song had Francis Lawrence as its director.

“Here Is Gone” proved to be a notable hit in the US especially, where it appeared on six different Billboard charts. This includes peaking at number 18 on the Hot 100 and number 3 on both the Adult Alternative Songs and Adult Top 40 listings.

And the track also charted in a handful of other countries, including making it to number 10 on the UK Rock and Metal Chart.

“Here Is Gone” was written by Rzeznik. And the track was produced by the entire band in conjunction with Rob Cavallo.
