Jake Browning lifts Bengals to MNF win vs. Jaguars in OT; Trevor Lawrence injury looms large
The Cincinnati Bengals ended their losing streak at three games behind a standout showing by quarterback Jake Browning against the Jaguars on “Monday Night Football,” but it’s the status of Jacksonville’s passer that looms large.
Trevor Lawrence exited the back-and-forth affair midway through the fourth quarter with an ankle injury, throwing his helmet in frustration and requiring help to walk to the locker room as he winced in pain. He was replaced by backup C.J. Beathard and underwent X-rays shortly after exiting.
Browning — making his second start since Cincinnati lost Joe Burrow to a wrist injury — went 32-of-37 for 354 yards and zero interceptions, earning a passer rating of 115.5. The 27-year-old also rushed for one touchdown, his first in an official game since he was a senior at Washington in 2018. Chase finished with 11 receptions for 149 yards.
Lawrence, 24, was 22-of-29 passing for 258 yards and two touchdowns before exiting. Beathard completed 8 of 9 pass attempts for 61 yards in relief of Lawrence.
The AFC North-worst Bengals improved to 6-6 while the Jaguars maintained their AFC South lead at 8-4.

Jake Browning currently eighth in QB fantasy points in Week 13
Cincinnati quarterback Jake Browning seems to be channeling Joe Burrow tonight, as Browning’s quarterback sneak has vaulted him to 22.4 fantasy points. To put that into perspective, it is the eighth highest fantasy point total by a quarterback in Week 13 and is only 1.52 points away from ranking fourth best this week.

Jake Browning ties game on first rush TD since 2018
The Bengals and Jaguars are tied once again, this time 28-28 after a 1-yard sneak by Cincinnati QB Jake Browning.
It’s Browning’s first touchdown rush in an official game since Nov. 3. 2018 against Stanford when he was a senior at Washington.
Disastrous Bengals sequence
Trevor Lawrence reaches the ball over the goal line for a TD.
But for a second it popped out and, impossibly, into the hands of Sam Hubbard with dreams of last year's playoff game.
Alas, disaster sequence for the Bengals.
Now down 28-21.
Jaguars back to being a better than a touchdown favorite
Cincinnati had claimed favorite status after getting out to a 21-14 third quarter lead, but that status is now well behind them, as Jacksonville’s 28-21 lead has made them a 7.5-point favorite in live in-game betting at BetMGM.
What you missed in the 1st 3 quarters on Monday Night Football
- After getting a fourth-down stop on the Bengals’ opening drive, the Jaguars marched 51 yards on their first possession (including a fourth-down conversion in the red zone) and took a 7-0 lead on a 5-yard TD rush by Travis Etienne. Jacksonville is 7-1 this season in games it has scored first.

- The Jaguars retook the lead on a 22-yard TD pass from Trevor Lawrence to Evan Engram, Engram’s first touchdown of the season. Before that TD, Engram’s 66 receptions (including his first two tonight) were the most by any player yet to catch a touchdown this season.
- The Bengals knotted the score at 14-14 ahead of the half with a 2-yard touchdown run by Mixon, his second of the half. It’s Mixon’s first multi-TD game since Week 9 of last season when he scored a franchise-record five touchdowns in a win over the Panthers.
- The Bengals opened the half with a 76-yard touchdown catch by Ja’Marr Chase, their longest play from scrimmage this season, and took their first lead of the game at 21-14.
- The Jaguars tied the game 21-21 on a wild, 14-yard touchdown catch by Parker Washington after it went through the hands of Bengals safety Dax Hill. Washington, a rookie out of Penn State, had yet to make a catch before tonight. He now has five for 53 yards through three quarters and his first career touchdown.
- The Bengals tried to get the Jaguars with a trick play before the end of the third quarter and it backfired as WR Tyler Boyd took the backward pass from Jake Browning and then is picked off when he tried to throw it back across the field to RB Joe Mixon.
- The Jaguars cashed in following the turnover with a 1-yard rush TD by Trevor Lawrence. Jacksonville has now scored 72 points off turnovers this season, second most in the NFL (Bills, 79).

Trick play backfires for Bengals
The Bengals tried to get the Jaguars with a trick play and it backfired as WR Tyler Boyd took the backward pass from Jake Browning and then is picked off when he tried to throw it back across the field to RB Joe Mixon.
It was Jaguars DE Josh Allen’s second career interception and first since Week 8 of 2021.
Parker Washington turning into a viable fantasy waiver pick
Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington hadn’t been targeted on a single pass this season prior to tonight, but the injury to Christian Kirk has moved Washington into the lineup.
He has responded quite well, posting four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown, with two of those catches being of the highlight variety. That production pace could move him into waiver pick status this week.
Parker Washington scores first NFL TD on incredible catch
The Jaguars tie the game on a wild, 14-yard touchdown catch by Parker Washington after it went through the hands of Bengals safety Dax Hill.
Washington, a rookie out of Penn State, had yet to make a catch before tonight. He now has four for 47 yards and his first career touchdown.
No punts for Bengals
The Bengals punted on six of their 10 drives in last week’s loss to the Steelers (60.0%), their second-highest punt rate in a game this season.
So far tonight? Zero punts in six drives:
- Downs
- Missed FG
- Touchdown
- Touchdown
- End of half
- Touchdown
Bengals are now a betting favorite
Cincinnati was a 10-point underdog at the start of this game and stayed in underdog status all through the first half, but the long touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase has moved the Bengals to favorite status, as they are listed at -1.5 points in live in-game betting at BetMGM.

Bengals take lead on 76-yard Ja'Marr Chase TD
The Bengals take their first lead of the night on a 76-yard touchdown pass from Jake Browning to Ja’Marr Chase.
It was the longest play from scrimmage for Cincinnati this season and the longest catch for Chase since Week 7 of his rookie season in 2021 against the Ravens (82-yard TD).
Jaguars have struggled in third quarter
Can the Bengals make their move here? The Jaguars entered the night ranked 31st in the NFL in opponent scoring during the third quarter this season (6.6 points per game) and have allowed seven or more points in the third quarter in four straight games.
Jaguars less than a touchdown favorite at halftime
Jacksonville was a 10-point favorite at the opening kickoff and was a 16.5-point favorite at one point after getting out to a 7-0 lead, but the Bengals moxie to tie the game at 14 has made the Jaguars only a 5.5-point favorite in live in-game betting at BetMGM.
Joe Mixon tied season high in PPR points in first half
The Bengals have arguably been too pass-centric of late and thus have not taken full advantage of Joe Mixon’s ability, but that hasn’t been the case today, as Mixon’s has gained 70 scrimmage yards and found the end zone twice on rushing plays. That gives Mixon 21.0 PPR points, which ties a season high in that category.

- Jaguars WR Christian Kirk needed help off the field after making a 26-yard reception on Jacksonville’s first play from scrimmage. The team announced that Kirk is questionable to return with a groin injury.

Tua Tagovailoa has a post-NFL future as a musician
Tua Tagovailoa had some guitars on display in the background of his appearance on the ManningCast and Eli Manning asked him if he could play.
Tagovailoa said that he can and then proceeded to play some notes from “Sweet Home Alabama” and said Florida State fans probably wouldn’t like that. He then played a few stanzas of Eric Clapton’s Tears In Heaven and Peyton proceeded to make up some football-based lyrics on the fly. It’s just another instance of ManningCast being a unique look at the NFL.
