After his parents divorced, Deborah raised Jason and his twin brother, Brett, as a single mother.
Oppenheim was a troubled youth, attending seven different high schools and boarding schools, and being expelled or suspended from five of them. He and his brother were arrested several times for fighting and other misbehavior. At age 13, Deborah sent them to a teen correctional camp in Idaho. Eventually, the twins moved in with their father, a strict disciplinarian and Vietnam veteran, and turned their lives around.
