Jennifer Beall - Psychotherapist - Severna Park, MD
Mia Lopez About Jennifer Beall
Have you ever heard someone tell an aspiring author to write about what she knows? I believe the same is true of counseling. I specialize in working with issues that are familiar to me, either because I have struggled with them myself or because someone close to me has done so. I believe that this personal experience gives a depth to my counseling work that it would not otherwise have.
So, how do you decide whether I might be a good fit for your needs? If you can identify with any of the following statements, there’s a good chance that I might be.
1. I have difficulty trusting people and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to open up to a therapist.
2. I am very critical of myself.
3. I feel like people wouldn’t like me if they knew the real me.
4. I sometimes feel like an impostor, like I don’t really know what I’m doing.
5. It seems like everyone else got a rule book for life that I didn’t get.
6. I sometimes feel hopeless.
7. Sometimes it’s hard for me to get out of bed in the morning.
8. I often feel sad, low, or depressed.
9. I wish I knew what “normal” was.
10. I often feel uncomfortable around other people.
11. I’ve never really felt like I was important.
12. Sometimes I feel like I’m really a kid, not an adult.
13. I have trouble saying no to other people.
14. I sometimes feel like other people take advantage of me.
15. I feel like I’m always taking care of other people, but nobody takes care of me.
16. I’m a perfectionist.
17. My parents fought a lot when I was a kid.
18. At least one of my parents was an alcoholic, addict, mentally ill, or chronically physically ill when I was growing up.
19. I tried to “blend into the woodwork” as a kid.
20. I constantly tried to make my parents happy, but I rarely, if ever, could.
