John Derrick Smitherman (Dinky) entered into eternal life on September 19, 2021. He was born to John E. Smitherman and Sharon King Smitherman in  Norfolk, VA on January 17, 1976.  After graduating from Lake Taylor High School in 1994,  John attended Norfolk State University, majoring in Mass Communications.

John was a very loving, caring person with a passion to help others.  He could often be seen with a “golden” smile on his face especially when showing his love to his family, he will be greatly missed.  In addition, John was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who loved to travel.

John was predeceased by his father John E. Smitherman; a son,  Ason K. Smitherman; his maternal grandparents, Russell Lee King Sr and Daisy Ann Yates;  his paternal grandmother, Iyonia Smitherman; and his brother, Dorian Holmes.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Ebony England Smitherman; son Jequan Whitehead (Tayesha); daughter Shynice White; mother Sharon Smitherman (Anthony); grandson Ge’Kobi Fuller; aunts Rhonda, Darlene, June, Penney, uncles Russell, Pascal, Brian and a host of family and friends.
