Joshua Aaron Charles, better known as Josh Charles, is an American stage, television, and film actor known for playing the roles of Dan Rydell on Sports Night, Will Gardner on The Good Wife, and Knox Overstreet on Dead Poets Society. He was born to mother Laura Charles and father Allan Charles on September 15, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up there.

Interested in acting fields from a very young age, he began his acting career at the age of nine. He spent his teenage years at the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Center located in New York. He studied at the Baltimore School of the Arts, but did not receive his diploma. He debuted in the field of screen acting with the John Waters film Hairspray in 1988.
