The murder-suicide of Julia Murray rocked the world. A mother in Glynn County, Georgia. Allegedly killed her daughter and son before taking her own life. 

Julia Murray, then 21 years old, reportedly made a 911 call from her grandparents’ house. Her children, Creighton, 2, and Ansli, 4, drowned, and she told the operator as much.

What happened to Julia Murray?

According to the 911 operator who took Murray’s call, she came across as very composed. Her tone of voice was flat and impersonal. 

The operator heard Murray’s disbelief and requested that he repeat what she said about killing them.

“I flooded them out…The Glynn County mother of two, aged 21, stated, “They are two and four,” before the silence was broken only by her rapid, heaving breaths.

After the operator begged her to tell him what had happened, she shot herself.

He kept asking again and over, “Are you there? I hope you’re doing okay. Murray spoke out quite gently and sounded perplexed.

“No. Murray pleaded, “Please hurry; I just shot myself with a gun.”

It was the first time she had strayed from her calm, collected demeanor since she calmly provided her name, address, and phone number at the outset of the emergency call at 9:50 a.m. It’s the ninth of February, 2010. 

Murray made the nearly 2-minute call immediately after she drowned her 4-year-old daughter Ansli and nearly drowned her 2-year-old son Creighton in the bathtub of their house on Baumgardner Road, and those were her final words.

Police investigation

According to Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering, officers discovered Murray dead in one room with a.357-Magnum handgun nearby, and her son and daughter’s bodies were still moist in their bedroom.

Ansli and Creighton appeared to be sound asleep next to each other on the same bed. Police Captain and Marissa Tindale told the Times-Union that there were no outward signs of injury besides symptoms of drowning.

Creighton was alive, but his sister had stopped breathing. According to Doering, the mother and her children had been transported to the Brunswick facility of the Southeast Georgia Health System.

Ansli passed away at 10:44 a.m. the same day. Her mother at 11:57 a.m., according to County Coroner Jimmy Durden. At the time of his hospitalization. Creighton was in a stable condition. 

According to the authorities, Murray was aimed in the upper left chest area.
