Hinnant also alleges harassment of Blacks by the police department, stating they lack support for the Black community.
Hinnant feels they resist Black women leading them, supported by research indicating negative stereotypes about Black women’s personalities.

Jones, speaking to CNN, refrained from commenting on the resignations of the police, citing personnel matters.

Wright, the owner of Granny Barn, a delightful gift boutique that offers vinyl and embroidery, dismissed the matter as a divisive “Black vs. White” situation.
The shop conveniently sits just two doors away from Town Hall. When asked about the presence of racism, Wright responded, “I’ve never seen that being a problem.”
She emphasized the need for patience and cautioned against hasty assumptions. Michelle Dawes, a former Kenly employee and resident, found the circumstances confusing.
Speculation suggests that accountability issues rather than race or gender may explain the resignations.
With the disbanding of the Kenly Police Department, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office will increase its presence.
Local resident Denise Bennett expressed skepticism, suspecting ulterior motives and emphasizing power dynamics over problem resolution. While some locals deny racism as a motive, Bennett remains unconvinced, stating, “It just didn’t compute.”
