Khaled Taja to Star in ‘Rubbles of Legends’
William Harris The prominent Syrian actor Khaled Taja is currently shooting the starring role in the new TV series Radm al Asateer (Rubbles of Legends) directed by Haytham Haqqi and scripted by journalist Abdel Rahman al Dhahhak in his drama debut.
Taja is also shooting the starring role in al Fusoul al Arbaa (The Four Seasons) by director Hatem Ali. He plays the role of a retired man who suffers from free time and the absence of his sons and grandsons.
Taja has proved his talent in playing comic and tragic roles in an excellent way. Born in Damascus in 1939, Taja started acting career early in his life benefiting from his accompaniment to the pioneers of Syrian theatre such as Abdel Latif Fathi, Nizar Fuad and Hikmat Mohsen.
However, his wide fame stands for his participation in main roles in more than 20 feature films. Saeq al Shahina (The Truck Driver) was Taja’s first feature, produced in 1967 by the General Cinema Organization. His role in Rijal Fi al Shams (Men in the Sun) was a turning point in his cinematic career. The film, which was produced by the GCO in 1970, deals with the Palestine question and the suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of their expulsion from their indigenous lands. It was followed by al Namer (The Tiger) Disgrace and Ah Ya Bahar (Oh Sea) which casts light on the sea life and the difficulties confronted by fishermen in earning their living.
Taja’s remarkable success in the field of cinema pushed him to achieve more success in the field of TV drama. He has played many tragic and comic series that reflect his capabilities and diverse talents.
He was also successful in historical series including Okhwat al Turab (Brothers of the Homeland), al Thuraya (The Chandelier) and Ayyam Shamiyya (Damascene Days) which is a long series that sheds light on the modern history of Damascus. He plays the role of a typical Damascene man who is nationalist and brave.
His role in Nihayet Rajal Shujaa (The End of an Old Man) which is based on a novel written by Hanna Mineh about sea life, has given Taja wide reputation.
Tamr Henna is another successful series by Taja in which he plays The Agha (landlord) who dominates a vast area and tries to direct the behavior of people in a way that serves his interests.
In the field of comedy, the most important of his roles was in Yawmiyyat Mudir Aam (The Activities of a Director General) which deals with the phenomenon of corruption and the necessity of combating it – Albawaba.com
