Kitt Shapiro parents Eartha Kitt and John McDonald got married on June 9, 1960. They remained together for four years before divorcing in 1964. 

Kitt was born a year into her parents' marriage. Eartha split from John on July 1, 1963, and filed for divorce citing "mental cruelty." 

Their divorce was finalized in March 1964. The court ordered John to pay $100 in child support. 

John McDonald

John was born on April 12, 1923, in Los Angeles, California. He worked as an accountant and an associate at a real estate company. 

McDonald was also a US Military veteran; he served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. John passed away at the age of 82 on May 12, 2005.

Eartha Kitt

Eartha was an American actress and singer. She is best known for her 1953 songs Santa Baby and C'est si bon. 

Kitt made her acting debut in the original Broadway production of Carib Song in 1945. Her musical career got a boost in the 50s after six of her songs reached the top 30 positions in the US chart. 

Throughout the decade, she sang multiple famous songs like I Want to Be Evil, Uska Dara, Under the Bridges of Paris, Just an Old Fashioned Girl, and more. 

Eartha's career declined in the US after she got in an altercation with the White House and CIA in 1968. After she was unofficially banned from Hollywood, Kitt moved to Europe to continue her acting and singing career. 

She made her comeback in the US in 1978 in the musical titled Timbuktu. Her performance in the Broadway show earned her a Tony Award nomination.

In addition to acting, Kitt also sang many hit songs, including Let's Do It, Where Is My Man, My Heart Belongs To Daddy, Somebody Bad Stole de Wedding Bell, and more. 

Eartha passed away after a brief battle with colon cancer on December 25, 2008. She was 81 years old at the time of her death.

Was Kitt Adopted By Eartha?

Eartha Kitt daughter Kitt McDonald was not adopted. She is her biological child. 

Shapiro was born as the only child of Eartha and John McDonald on November 26, 1961. 

Due to her light complexion, Kitt has been regularly targeted by trolls with some even questioning if she is the real daughter of Eartha. 

The 61-year-old opened up about the discriminatory behavior she faced because of her skin color. She cited the various comments on Facebook that she "couldn't possibly be Eartha's child" due to her light-toned skin. She further dismissed the trolls claiming that her black mother couldn't possibly adopt a white child in the 60s.
