This has been a special week for Pau Gasol and for the LA Lakers, with the Spaniard's No.16 jersey being retired by the franchise.

Gasol has received several messages of congratulations this week, including from members of the current roster.

LeBron James' message of congratulations for Pau Gasol

LeBron James was one of those to send Gasol a message wishing him all the best, doing so through the team's social media.

"Pau, congratulations man on getting your jersey retired," James stated.

"You're a Laker great, your name and your number will live forever with the legends up there.

"You, your brother Kobe, Magic, Kareem...

"It's just super dope what you did for this franchise and what you've been to this franchise doesn't go unnoticed.

"I'm happy to have been able to compete against you all those years, not only here in the NBA but also in the Olympics.

"Congratulations to not only you, but also to your beautiful family and to Spain.

"This is super duper dope and hopefully I'm doing my part to continue the Laker legacy while wearing this uniform."

Anthony Davis' message of congratulations for Pau Gasol

Another superstar who sent the Spaniard a message was Anthony Davis, also via the Lakers' social media.

"Congratulations, it's a huge honor to be able to have your jersey in the rafters here in LA," Davis told Gasol.

"I had a chance to play against you a couple of times and definitely had some fun battles.

"You definitely were someone who I've always kept an eye on.

"I don't know if you know this, but any time we played Spain and you were playing, I was always nervous because of what you were able to do.

"The impact that you brought on our game, coming from overseas and putting a stamp for all the international players in the NBA, is huge and we thank you for that.

"You're a legend here in the league forever and you mean so much to the Lakers organisation."
