Lees Summit teacher killed in a car crash. 

On Thursday morning, Lee’s Summit high school teacher Rachel Stone died in a car crash in Jackson County, Missouri. 

Stone, who had worked for the Lee’s Summit School District for over two decades, was driving her 2021 Chevy Malibu when it collided head-on with a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer. 

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the truck driver lost control on the icy highway, crossed the median, and hit Stone’s car. 

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 50 Highway and 7 Highway. The truck driver did not suffer any physical injuries.

The school district issued a letter to families and staff confirming Stone’s death after the accident. 

She was a physical education and health teacher and served as an assistant volleyball coach for the school’s girls’ team. 

Stone started her career as a student teacher in 1997 before becoming a full-time teacher.

Stone’s husband, Scott Stone, also works for the school district as a Bernard Campbell Middle School teacher. She left behind her two daughters.
