Licking Eyeball as Love Expression
Emily Wong TEMPO.CO, Tokyo - People who are in love tend to do weird things to show off their love. Some students in Japan show their love in unusual and strange action, which is licking their partner's eyeball. The trend is called oculolinctus.
"The eyeball-licking video has gone spiral on YouTube," Mail Online wrote on Thursday, June 13.
On the other side of the world, Elektrika Energias received a similar treatment from her boyfriend. The student of US Virgin Island said to Huffington Post that her boyfriend likes to lick her eyeball to show his love.
"He did it a year ago," the 29 year-old said. "We have broken up, but I would like someone else to lick my eyeball."
Energias said, the lick on eyeballs feels really nice. It feels like someone licks her toes and it tickles her.
Eyeball-licking is actually dangerous to health. Based on a medical report, the lick can transfer bacteria causing inflammation on eyelid tissue or conjunctivitis. Even herpes virus can be transferred via this kind of action.
"The risk is proved when many students wore an eye cover in a school in Japan," Naver matome site wrote. "At least 10 students in each class wear an eye cover. And 12 students in the class have licked or have been licked on their eyeball."
Dr. Phillip Pizzuto from American Academy of Ophthalmology said, licking eyeball can cause blindness. "Because the bacteria on one's mouth can damage eye tissues," Pizzuto said.
