Machine Gun Preacher is not, in fact, a companion piece to Hobo With a Shotgun but instead the real-life story of Sam Childers, a former drug dealer who, after converting to Christianity, dedicates his life to building and sustaining an orphanage in Sudan. If you’re going to have a harrowing, ultimately heartwarming, message-based movie about your life, get Gerard Butler to play you if at all possible. This is the real Childers, so Butler is actually not that far off the mark. (Sorry, Titus Welliver.) Preacher opens September 30.
