On Wednesday, July 5, Mario Dumaual passed away at 64 due to septic shock, the severe stage of sepsis caused by an infection. 

Mario Dumaual’s family statement, shared on Facebook, shed light on his challenges during his final days. 

He was admitted to the Philippine Heart Center for treatment after having a heart attack, but his struggle continued after that.

In addition to the heart attack, he had to fight a difficult fungal infection that made his situation worse.

Despite the stress on his body and mind, Mario persisted in his resolve to overcome these obstacles. 

His rehabilitation was greatly influenced by his desire to be with his cherished family again.

He expressed how much he wanted to return home and be with his family and how deeply and crucially important their relationship was to him.

However, the fungus proved to be a formidable opponent, surpassing his body’s capacity to heal.

Mario’s condition deteriorated despite the best efforts of medical staff and his family’s assistance because of the infection’s overpowering effects. 

Mario and his loved ones experienced devastation as they had hoped for a full recovery and a return to a happy life.

A Rock and a Proud Family Man 

Mario Dumaual’s family paid tribute to him as a loving husband, father, and granddad. 

In addition to his accomplishments as a reporter, Mario nurtured his family, empowering them to become strong individuals.

The remembrance of Mario Dumaual will take place at the Loyola Memorial Chapels and Crematorium Commonwealth.

Funeral will begin on Thursday and continue until Sunday, starting at 2 pm each day.

Damual’s Career in Journalism

Mario Dumaual’s career in journalism began after graduating from the University of the Philippines Los Banos. 

He started as a staff writer for the Ministry of Agriculture and subsequently worked in the finance and shipping sectors.

In 1982, Mario joined the Times Journal as an entertainment reporter, where he showcased his talents and passion for reporting on celebrities, award shows, pageants, and galas.

He later became a prominent writer for the entertainment columns of the broadsheet newspaper Malaya.

During his tenure at ABS-CBN, Mario Dumaual made a significant impact as a reporter and as a mentor to Star Patrol reporters. 

His guidance and expertise helped shape the careers of aspiring journalists in the field of entertainment reporting.
