Melanie Bedard took a drastic decision in the middle of the turmoil caused by the rumors surrounding her and Corey Perry. The mother of the Chicago Blackhawks' rising star Connor Bedard may have needed to distance herself from the spotlight and take a breath.

Throughout the week, rumors spread on social media that the veteran Hawks player had briefly become involved with Bedard's mother.

The controversy reached such a level that the team's management conducted an investigation that ended on Wednesday with Perry's dismissal. In a statement, the NHL team explained that the player "engaged in conduct that is unacceptable."

Although they did not give further explanations, the Hawks management explained that such conduct goes against the terms of the player's contract and the team's internal policies. The NHL Players Association is also reviewing the matter.

Kyle Davidson, the team's general manager, assured that Perry's departure has nothing to do with the rumors about his relationship with Melanie.

Melanie seeks to escape the spotlight

So far, neither Melanie nor Connor have made any statements about the matter. However, just on Wednesday, it was discovered that Melanie's Instagram profile had disappeared.

Without further comment from those involved, the media speculate that Bedard is trying to distance herself from the center of the scandal, as well as the harassment and insults by strangers on social media.

Melanie, 45, has been a sales manager, fitness and wellness coach, agent and hockey manager. She is married to Tom Bedard, and her children are Madisen, 20, and Connor, 18.

Corey Perry's reaction

For his part, the 20-season veteran has not issued any statements either. However, the agency that represents him explained that "Corey Perry has stepped away from the Chicago Blackhawks to attend to personal matters."

The president of Newport Sports Management, Pat Morris, told specialized media: "Corey and his family appreciate privacy at this time."

Corey is married to Blackeny Perry, née Robertson, with whom he has a six-year-old son, Griffen.
