The crash claimed the lives of at least 68 passengers, leaving behind a trail of devastation and heartbreak. 

The passengers on board were a diverse group, comprising 37 men, 25 women, 3 children, and even 3 newborns. 

The authorities are currently investigating the cause of this devastating incident, but the loss of so many innocent lives is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of safety in aviation.

What did the video depict?

A sudden explosion caused the video to become disorienting. The last few frames depict a terrifying inferno outside the window, and frantic passenger shouts can be heard in the video.

The validity of the footage could not be independently verified. As the airplane began to land, another video taken from the ground showed the crash. 

According to reports, the plane suddenly tipped to the left, turned upside down, and erupted into a ball of fire.

There were five Indian passengers on board, and they were all from the Uttar Pradesh city of Ghazipur.

Sonu Jaiswal, one of them, was reportedly conducting a Facebook Live broadcast just before the plane went down. He is one of the deceased.

The video was given by former Nepali MP and Central Committee member Abhishek Pratap Shah, who told NDTV that he had received it from a friend and found it among the rubble today.

‘One of my pals sent it after getting it from a police officer. It truly is a record. The video from today was shot as the plane was about to land,’ Mr. Shah stated in an exclusive interview with NDTV.

The search for the plane’s black box, which is anticipated to provide information about the causes of the disaster, is ongoing, and rescue operations are expected to continue tomorrow. 

The capital of the Himalayan country, Kathmandu, is only a 25-minute flight away from Pokhara.

The authorities raised questions about the plane crash

Recently, there have been multiple plane crashes in Nepal’s aviation industry, raising questions regarding flight crew safety and training.

Nepal has been included on the European Union’s flight safety blacklist since 2013. 

Following safety concerns raised by the International Civil Aviation Organization, all aircraft from Nepal have been prohibited in EU airspace.

‘The government has to improve our aviation system, our planes, information system, and pilots as well,’ Mr. Shah said, mentioning Pokhara as a major tourism destination.

‘The situation in Nepal is critical. I believe the current administration takes this seriously,’ he continued.
