Wentz made $1.16 million in his lone year in Los Angeles after signing with the team in November. As the backup to starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, he saw limited action over the second half of the season, but he proved he is still a capable signal-caller.
Wentz filled in for Stafford in the regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers and helped lead the Rams to a 21-20 win that helped them earn the sixth seed in the NFC playoffs.
The North Dakota State product threw for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 17-of-24 passing. He also recorded team highs of 17 carries and 56 rushing yards with another score on the ground.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz quickly established himself as a reliable quarterback. He performed so well when he arrived to Philadelphia that the team traded away Sam Bradford and named him the starter for the 2016 season opener.
Wentz put forth a stellar sophomore campaign that saw him throw for 33 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. However, his 2017 season was cut short when he suffered a torn ACL. He led the Eagles to an 11-2 record in his 13 starts, and the team went on to win Super Bowl LII with backup quarterback Nick Foles leading the way.
Wentz was never able to regain the form he showed in 2017. He had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders, but his tenure with both teams ended after just one season.
The veteran won't be competing for a starting job behind superstar Patrick Mahomes, but Wentz will have a chance to earn a roster spot and provide valuable depth for a team seeking a third straight Super Bowl title.
