Nicholas Kuzia's Baseball Recruiting Profile
Andrew Mckinney Personal Statement
Coming out of Seymour High School I had many college opportunities for my academic level. I have played and loved the game of baseball since I was 5 and I wanted to continue playing at the college level. I was recruited by high level Division 3 coaches from St. Joseph's of Maine, Western New England University, Eastern Connecticut University, Salve Regina and Suffolk University to name a few. I was offered their highest merit scholarships to attend their schools. I was also accepted into other Division 1 schools like St. John's University Queens and Fordham University but I was not recruited to play baseball at that level yet. I have chosen to attend a junior college, Herkimer College in Herkimer NY to start my academic and athletic career. I feel like I have a lot more developing to do and I want to show coaches that I can compete at the Division 1 level. My brother Joseph did the same thing and worked himself a scholarship to play baseball at St. John's University. I feel like I can follow the same path to that level. Coach Jason Rathbun was able to help Joe go from 79mph to 90mph through his first year and topped out at 92 in his last games for them. I am at the same point in my baseball development as he was when he went there and I am working hard at getting better in the gym with my trainer and in the cages with my pitching coach Dante Palazzo and fielding/hitting coach Mike Moras to reach my goal of being a Division 1 athlete. Depending on how I develop I would consider leaving Herkimer my first year if I could get noticed by the right schools. I know that my academics will always be there for me, all I have to do is work on my baseball.
I have always been in the top 10 of my class and have always been an Honor Student with a ~3.8 gpa taking AP and honors classes. I was able to score an 800 on my math portion of the SAT and got a respectable 550 on the reading. I am sure I can help any coach raise his team GPA.
I have played varsity baseball since freshman year and have also played Summer baseball every year. Currently I play for the CT Grind 18U team which has attracted many of the top prospects in the area. I will be playing many games this summer that coaches can come and see.
