Phoebe Millicent Hearst Cooke was an American businesswoman and philanthropist with a net worth of $1.9 billion dollars. She derived most of her fortune from Hearst Corp. where she sat on the board of directors as the Chairperson from 1962 to 1998. Today, Hearst Corp. is estimated to be worth about $90 billion.

Phoebe was born in San Francisco and spent most of her childhood on Hearst’s ranch. She was the granddaughter of publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst, but was not a public person. She was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Fame in 1996 and supported various philanthropic causes.

Phoebe and her husband, Amory “Jack” Hearst, lived in the upscale bay for most of their 45-year marriage. Her husband passed away in 2008, four years prior to her death on November 18, 2012. Phoebe was an avid rider and active in the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy.
