Rhianna Hensler's Women's Swimming Recruiting Profile
Mia Lopez Personal Statement
Swimming has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I've been swimming competitively for ten years now, and enjoy the process of setting and reaching a goal. From the 6:00 AM practices to the biggest taper meets of the year, I love the thrill of competing and working with others to reach our maximum potential.
After amazing high school seasons my freshman and sophomore years, including three state titles and a MHSAA D3 record in the 100 yard butterfly, I realized the importance of a team atmosphere and the pride that comes with representing a school. Additionally, my club team, Club Wolverine, provides an amazing team culture that fosters growth as an individual and as a team. The club has taught me that true teams work together and win together, and that swimming to contribute to a team goal is much more rewarding than swimming for individual success. I would really like to continue the amazing experience of this swimming through the next two years of high school and into college.
The main reason I swim is just that; a reason. Swimming gives me a reason to get up at 5:00 in the morning to work out. It gives me a reason to meet new people and learn swimming and life lessons from them. It gives me reasons to laugh, cry, be mad, and smile. It gives me a reason to love working hard and to keep trying, even when nothing seems to be going right. Swimming gives me so much, and everyday I train, I have another reason to keep swimming. The sport has given me stories, memories, friends, amazing coaches, and determination. But most importantly, it has given me a group of people I can call my team. I hope to be a member of a college program that prioritizes the importance of the culture of a winning team, and emphasizes the importance of team over individual.
While swimming is important to me, academics always come first. My high school is known for its rigorous curriculum, and this has taught me the importance of organization, planning ahead, and time management. I also participate in National Honor Society, Newspaper Club, Pre-Med Club and Student Council. Throughout high school and college, I would like to continue challenging myself in both academics and athletics.
