Robert Cleveland Lamb – Metropolitan Funeral
Mia Morrison Our beloved Robert Cleveland Lamb, Jr. made his transition from this earth to dwell with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born in Norfolk County, Virginia to Nora Lamb and Robert C. Lamb, Sr. on October 3, 1932.
After the death of Robert Sr., Nora married Daniel Turner, and their union of love was firmly woven together. Through this union, they shared the rearing Robert Jr. Robert matriculated through Norfolk County schools, graduating from Norfolk Catholic High School. He studied Electrical Engineering at North Carolina A&T and Norfolk State College.
In 1953 he married the love of his life Doris Clark Lamb; he fondly called his “Sally.” Through their union they reared Veronica, Deborah and Robert Lamb, III. Robert was a family man. Together they enjoyed traveling throughout the country and abroad. Many summers he took his family to Elizabeth, New Jersey and the state fairs of New York. Robert took full advantage of the benefits of his career as an engineer for aviation and air traffic control. To his family, he was called “Daddy, Granddaddy, Uncle and Friend,” but those who were blessed to know him well called him Blue.
Robert accepted Christ at a very early age and served the Lord wherever he could. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church South Hill (Hill Street), Third Baptist in Portsmouth, VA, and New Hope Church of God in Christ in Norfolk, VA. He was a faithful member and supporter of First Baptist Church South Hill in Chesapeake, VA. His life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” To those who knew Robert, he did anything he could to improve and make a difference in the lives of his family, friends and neighbors.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Nora and Daniel Turner. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 70 years Doris Lamb; his children Veronica Cook, Deborah Lamb, and Robert Lamb, III (Sharon); his two grandchildren Monica Powell (Andrew), and Marcus Lamb (Amy); three great-grandchildren Dajae’ Goulet, Whitney Lamb, and Sean Lamb; one great great-grandchild Auria Middleton; his brother-in-law Earl Clarke (Agnes); two sisters-in-law Helen Clark and Mahalia Clark; his three god-children Reverend Dr. Cheryl Wilson (Stanley), Reverend Marcus Branch (Tamika), Michael Clark (Tracy) and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Robert will be remembered for the way he made us laugh, the stories that he shared and the generous spirit he possessed. He was truly a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather and friend.
