Personal Statement

My name is Ryan Shoemaker, class of 2022.  I attend Eastern High School in Louisville, Kentucky.   I enjoy traveling, being active, hanging out with my friends and being involved at my church.  Soccer has been a part of my life ever since I was little.  I fell in love with the game instantly and knew it would always be part of my life.  As I have learned more about the game I came to realize that it is a goal of mine to play at a higher level.  That led me to become more focused on the sport I found the most fitting for me, leaving other sports behind such as baseball and cross country.

I believe what sets me apart from other players is my adaptability, coach-ability and my passion to succeed. I am always willing to take on new challenges my coaches puts in front of me.  I will give any position the coach asks me to step into my full dedication for the good of the team. My current club team has asked me to move to Center Defensive Mid this season to allow me to grow  but also help the front line with my voice and vision.

When it comes to soccer I can be a field general wherever I am at on the field.  I enjoy being back on defense and have thrived at those positions for my Club and High School teams.   My ability to communicate to my team and my understanding of the game has named me team captain of my Club team.  I work effectively in the back half of the field where I can see the pitch and I always have the mindset of moving the ball up the field into open space or someone making a run. 

If you ask any of my friends to describe me they would say I am outgoing and humble.  You will also see this when I am involved at church.  It is very important to me to be involved where I can.  Helping others is important to me and has been instilled in me by my parents.  I see the greater good in helping others and I carry that on the field with me during games.   At school most teachers will say I am a good student. I feel all these characteristics describe me and the type of soccer player and leader I have become throughout my life.  It  is important to be a team player not only on the field, but in life as well.
