Super Bowl 2024 Score: Final Box Score and Analysis from 49ers vs. Chiefs | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Sophia Edwards Mahomes didn't have the start he was looking for. The quarterback couldn't get Kansas City's offense going in the first half, and it left the Chiefs with a 10-3 deficit to overcome at halftime. Things didn't get much better for Mahomes in the second half, as he threw his only interception of the postseason on the opening drive in the third quarter.
From there, he turned things around.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first touchdown of the game in the third quarter, finding Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 16-yard touchdown to take the lead and spark Kansas City's offense. On the Chiefs' final drive of regulation, Mahomes led them down the field to set up the game-tying field goal.
After the 49ers struck first with a field goal in overtime, the Chiefs were looking to Mahomes to deliver again, and he did just that.
While facing a fourth-and-one on their own 34-yard line, Mahomes took a designed run for the first down and more to keep the Chiefs' season alive. He then completed five straight passes to lead Kansas City down the field and into 49ers territory.
On a crucial third-and-one situation, Mahomes once again used his feet, this time picking up 15 yards and getting the Chiefs into the red zone. A few plays later, he delivered the game-winning pass to Hardman.
Mahomes didn't have the best first half, but he more than made up for it in the second half with a veteran performance to win his third Super Bowl and his third Super Bowl MVP.
