Angelique Cauchy has revealed that she was raped almost 400 times by Andrew Gueddes, her former tennis coach.

Gueddes is a convicted child rapist and began coaching Cauchy in 1999 when she was 12 years old.

She revealed to France Info in 2023 that he raped her almost 200 times a year and that she was left feeling suicidal.

The particular incident happened during a 15-day camp at La Baule in western France.

"I thought many times about committing suicide," she said when testifying at the Palais Bourbon government building.

"He raped me three times a day. The first night he asked me to go to his room and I didn't do it, then he came into mine.

"It was worse. I was in prison, I couldn't get out when I wanted to."

She further revealed that the tennis club president defended Gueddes due to a perception that he won titles for the club.

"It was known in the tennis world that his behaviour with young girls was not correct," Cauchy added.

"When a woman complained to the club president, the answer was 'Yes, but he brings us titles'.

"I'm not talking about me because I didn't know. But, for the others, there were always those who said 'Yes, he's with..., he's dating...'.

"But at 38, you don't go out with a girl of 15, let alone when you're training her."

Gueddes was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2021 for raping and sexually assaulting four girls aged between 12 and 17 years old.

Cauchy can remember exactly how many steps separated their rooms, as she recalled them in her statement describing them as 13 steps of terror.

As a form of emotional blackmail, Gueddes told her that he had AIDS, leaving Cauchy to fear whether she had the disease as a child.

"I lived between 13 and 18 years old thinking I had AIDS," she said.
