Texas' Quinn Ewers to Start at QB vs. TCU After Shoulder Injury Recovery | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Andrew Mckinney Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is set to make his return to the field this weekend.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters Thursday that Ewers, who was not limited in practice, will start Saturday's game against TCU after recovering from a shoulder injury.
"It will be great to have No. 3 back at quarterback on Saturday night," Sarkisian said, per On3's Joe Cook.
Ewers missed Texas' last two games against Kansas State and BYU with a shoulder injury in his throwing arm. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported last month that Ewers was dealing with a grade 2 AC joint sprain.
The 20-year-old suffered the injury in a 31-24 win over the Houston Cougars on October 21. He initially tried to play through the pain but was replaced by redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy.
With Murphy under center, the Longhorns improved to 8-1 on the season. He completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 465 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions in two games.
Freshman Arch Manning, the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2023, has yet to see the field this season.
Prior to his injury, Ewers was in the Heisman Trophy conversation. In seven games this season, he has completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 1,915 yards and 13 touchdowns against three interceptions, in addition to rushing for 53 yards and five scores.
With Ewers back under center, the No. 7 Longhorns should see their Big 12 title and College Football Playoff hopes take a step in the right direction.
