TikTok Live Shopping No Longer Available as Its E-commerce Service Stopped
Mia Horton TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TikTok officially ended its e-commerce service at 5 p.m. Jakarta time today, Oct. 4. Tempo observed that it is no longer displaying products and its live shopping feature is no longer available.
On the home page of TikTok Shop, users can still see various categories such as beauty products, women's clothing, electronics, Muslim fashion, accessories, and others. But the entire category page says, "Something went wrong. Tap to try again."
It also still displayed a page with a list of current transactions, whether in process or in delivery.
The China-based short-video app had earlier stated that it would cease the transaction service to comply with the Trade Minister’s Regulation No. 31 of 2023 concerning Provisions for Business Licensing, Advertising, Development, and Supervision of Business Actors in Trading through Electronic Systems (PMSE).
“Our priority is to remain compliant with the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia,” TikTok Indonesia said on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Isy Karim, Director General of Domestic Trade, stated that as of Oct. 3, TikTok Indonesia had not yet applied for a permit as an e-commerce platform so it could only promote products without facilitating direct transactions.
He also said that TikTok is allowed to resume operating its e-commerce service as long as it establishes a new platform, obtains an e-commerce license from the Trade Ministry, and creates a standalone TikTok Shop app.
