Tim Unwin Family Mourns The Death Of A Springfield Officer
Emily Wong Tim Unwin family is currently mourning the death of a 31-year-old police officer.
On Thursday morning, family, friends, and fellow officers from across Greater Cincinnati gathered to pay their respects to Officer Tim Unwin, a 31-year-old officer who tragically lost his life in a crash while responding to another officer’s call for help.
Jake Gilbert, who met Unwin in the second grade, described how Unwin became a part of his family after his parents bought the lot across the street.
Chief Rick Bley of the Springfield Township police department praised Unwin’s kind-heartedness and humor, saying that “he made everyone smile with his antics.
During the service at Spring Grover Funeral Home, Tim Unwin’s family and close friends shared touching memories that brought both tears and laughter to the room.
According to Bley, Officer Unwin’s positive influence extended beyond his colleagues, reaching the people he served in the community.
Bley went on to say that Unwin’s exceptional character was what made him a great police officer and that the citizens of Springfield Township were fortunate to have him on their side.
The crash that took Officer Unwin’s life also involved another officer, William Dunson, who was left grieving the loss of his fellow officer while dealing with his own injuries.
Bley met with both families and was struck by the Dunson family’s condolences and support for the police department and Tim Unwin family, despite their own loss.
The Unwin family also honored Dunson’s memory by including him in the visitation and funeral arrangements.
The community came together to support the Dunson family by starting a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses.
Officer Tim Unwin’s funeral arrangements included a private mass at St. Lawrence Church, followed by a public visitation at Spring Grove Funeral Home.
The funeral service was held at the same location and was followed by a procession to Arlington Memorial Gardens, passing by the Springfield Township Police Department, where Officer Unwin served. The entombment concluded the service.
Officer Tim Unwin’s legacy as a kind-hearted and selfless person will live on in the memories of those who knew him and in the community he served.
His sacrifice is a reminder of the bravery and dedication of all law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve their communities.
Despite their heartbreak, the Tim Unwin family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received during this difficult time.
