Hamilton was born in December of 1951 and began playing guitar at the age of 12 before switching to bass two years later to join a band. He met future bandmates Joe Perry and David “Pudge” Scott and, shortly after, the trio met Steven Tyler. They all moved to Boston to further their music career and eventually named their band Aerosmith.
Hamilton is credited with helping write many of Aerosmith’s songs, including two of their biggest hits, “Sweet Emotion” and “Janie’s Got a Gun.” He has stated that his favorite Aerosmith song is “The Farm,” which was released in 1997.
In 1975, Hamilton married Terry Cohen, and the couple has two children, Julian and Sage.
