Trey Burke Reportedly to Be Traded to Washington Wizards | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Mia Horton ESPN's Marc Stein reported on June 29 that the Jazz had placed Burke on the block after acquiring George Hill from the Indiana Pacers, and they will benefit from 2014 No. 5 overall draft pick Dante Exum's return from injury.
The 23-year-old Michigan alumnus appeared in 64 games this past season, averaging 10.6 points and 2.3 assists per contest in a reserve role.
He was a starter the majority of his first two seasons, making the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2013-14 after Utah selected him ninth overall in the 2013 draft.
Burke was previously on the block ahead of the trade deadline this past season, per Stein, after receiving far less playing time relative to his initial two campaigns.
Although Burke fell out of favor with head coach Quin Snyder, he stayed positive following the 2015-16 season, according to Tony Jones and Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune:
I just think not playing me was a decision that coach made. One thing about coach Snyder is he's always been straight up with me. He always told me why, even if I didn't really understand it. I just had to stay professional and mature. I know everything is temporary and that my time will eventually come again. I just have to handle the things that I can control.
While Burke largely hasn't lived up to his potential in the NBA, he could be worth a gamble for the Wizards considering John Wall's injury history.
The 2012-13 National College Player of the Year is young and a fairly inexpensive option, as he is owed just over $3.3 million in 2016-17, per Spotrac.com.
